B.J. Gawle is a ceramic artist, author-illustrator, and registered nurse. He studied psychology and art at Michigan State University, with an emphasis in ceramic sculpture, and completed his MFA at the University of Utah. His graduate ceramic work explored vinyl masking techniques to create text and imagery with clay and glaze, as well as kinetic sculpture. His recent sculptural work focuses on abstract figures inspired by robots, juxtaposing controlled wheel-thrown elements with organic and spontaneous appendages. B.J. has been an adjunct professor at the University of Utah, Westminster University, and continues to teach students at his own studio in Salt Lake City.
